I am not a gym rat. Before I became pregnant I was thinking about running a 5k and that was the most dedicated to working out (and running) that I had ever been. I went to physical therapy for a knee injury and was learning how to walk and run correctly. Apparently I was doing it wrong ;) Once I was pregnant I made the personal decision to put my running on hold.
As it just so happens, I am also not one of those women who sheds pounds from breastfeeding. As much as I hoped I would be, I'm just not. And with 20 pounds to lose before I reach my pre-pregnancy weight I knew I needed to become a gym rat, or at least a mouse for now...
So last night I pulled up to the gym and found front row parking. Even cooler than front row parking? I parked in reverse. I never back into a parking spot. I was on fire! (cue Alicia Keys) Then I walk into the gym and it looks like this:
A bunch of fit people probably working out for the fun of it! I decided to keep away from the treadmills (not that there was even an empty one) and got on the leg press machine. An older man got on after me and said, "Oh I can't do this that heavy". Sweet! I can leg press more than a 70 year old man! For some reason whenever I use the machines I always max out on weight hoping the person behind me will be super impressed. I set a goal for at least 20 reps on each machine at max weight in one minute. And out of 10 machines with cardio in-between I hit the goal on all but 2 machines. They were arm machines - my upper body is my downfall. Any time I wanted to stop I just had to look up at one of the TVs and see John Cena yelling into the screen and pretend he was my personal trainer. Weird, I know.

Then today after catching up on The Biggest Loser, Andrew asked if I wanted to join him in an at home workout. This means crossfit and this means I will hurt. But once again I did it at 100%. Oh, and pretending like you are also a contestant on Biggest Loser also helps when working out ;)
I'm beginning my lifestyle change NOW and will be sharing healthy recipes (you know me, I love food) and possibly my weight loss progression with y'all. And maybe this will help someone else who is in the same post-baby boat as me, or someone who has fallen off the new year's resolution bandwagon!
xoxo

I need to start my life changing style now too! Can't wait for all the healthy ideas!
ReplyDeleteYou don't know me, I went to school with Andrew back when he was D-rew. Anywho, your blog is so cute! My husband and I just had our first baby (girl) back in August and I know how you feel about losing the baby weight - a constant battle. Good luck and keep blogging!!!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl!!!
ReplyDeleteBe my friend on myfitnesspal.com! Please?!?! I only have 6 friends to motivate me.
ReplyDeleteYou are AWESOME! I completely and totally avoid the machines at the gym, ha ha. I go for the treadmills (until it warms up enough to run outside) and spin classes. Unless I'm with a friend, then I can do the machines because I don't feel as dumb laughing at myself if I'm not standing by myself.... does that make sense? Ha!
ReplyDeleteI say just work into working out slowly! I just had my baby December 20th and my body is still not back to normal. My ribs feel bruised/sore after running (and the most I've done is a mile and a half) and everything still feels shifty in the pelvic zone (tmi... I know! Sorry :)) Have you had that problem?
Fantastic job! And thanks for sharing your apprehension - it's very inspiring. Keep on keepin' on! :)
ReplyDeleteI know alllllll about getting back into shape after pregnancy. I am right there with you. Unfortunately I didn't start as early as you did. I was hoping breastfeeding would melt those pounds....what a joke! It worked for my friends but not me. Rip off!
ReplyDeleteI live in Orem and I found you on the Bloglovin' link up. Crazy what a small world the blogosphere is huh!? I am a new follower and cheerleader! GO GIRL!
Hope you will stop by my blog and if you like what you see, stick around!
